Kitchen Science Fun: Classroom Setup


The e-Lab is designed to accommodate up to 25 students.

The students should be divided into five teams with up to 5 students on each team. They will work collaboratively throughout the e-Lab. Team names are Team A, Team B, Team C, Team D, and Team E.

During the e-lab videoconference the Lab Director will be conducting a variety of experiments – including making butter with your students.  The following items are needed on mission day:

Mandatory Materials Needed:

·       Miniature Marshmallows (at least one for each child)

·       Minimum of 5 baby food jars with SECURE lids; 1 per each team of 6 students. If you have more jars, distribute them equally among your students.

·       Heavy whipping cream (1/4 to 1/2 cup per jar) – NOT COOL WHIP

·       Salt (optional)

·       Bread or crackers – for students to enjoy with their fresh-made butter

·       Container to use when pouring off buttermilk in butter making activity

 

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

·       Any type of container with a lid will work.

·       The heavy whipping cream MUST BE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE FOR 12 HOURS.
