Electromagnetic Spectrum

Electromagnetic Spectrum, Suggested Grades: 6-9

During this 45-60 minute video conference, your students will learn basic concepts of the electromagnetic spectrum, identify waves, and determine if they are naturally occurring or manmade while investigating if they are harmful or not.  As members of the Spectrum Wave Analysis Team (S.W.A.T.),students will be given the task of investigating waves to determine their characteristics, sources, and potential uses.  They will be given partial information about different waves, and will work together to complete a report on their assigned wave to learn more about how it affects our everyday lives both on Earth and in space.  Demonstrations from the Lab Director will deepen their understanding of this topic and show how NASA uses the spectrum to learn more about the universe.
